July 6th - Another Medicine Bow Cup now behind us

Rounds 6 and 7 near Esterbrook, WY are now history. The Independence Day weekend forecast called for temperatures 10 degrees below the normal 90 degree highs, a welcome deprature, and Saturday didn't dissapoint. Dispite the green, lush vegitation produced from a wet spring, we were bestowed with 10 dry sections and a dusty loop trail then that evening a storm rolled through at dusk quieting camp and sending everyone in. Sunday we woke to light rain, fog and temps in the 50's. The Trialsmasters set 12 sections for us and we got started on time. Things started to dry out after the morning support classes rode a couple of loops and the upper classes started the afternoon with sunshine. After an hour and a half, moderate to heavy rain set in till 4:30 rendering the recently dried out rocks slippery and difficult again.
We had 58 riders Saturday and 59 Sunday including 6 Juniors, a very good turn-out augmented nicely by a contingency of our good trials friends from Colorado, Idaho, Montana and even Pennsylvania.
The Medicine Bow Cup was awarded to Ryan Matteson of Big Timber, MT...Congratulations Ryan!
Stay tuned for the results and a few pictures.

June 17th - Midwest Results

Results for rounds 4 and 5 at Midwest are now posted in the Championship Points table, click "Standings" in the nav bar above to view them.
Saturday's tie between brothers Guy and Marc Chapman as well as Sunday's tie between brothers Brian and Derek Martinson were broken by first point scored wherein the rider who was first to score a point during the trial is trumped by the other. A few pics coming soon!

June 13th - Midwest Monsoon - for the Ducks!

Rounds 4 and 5 in Midwest Wyoming went on dispite endless rain and temps straining to reach 50. The 22 sections planned for both days were reduced to 8 sections that were setup on sandstone outcrops, ridden normally on Saturday and the same sections ridden backwards on Sunday. The unused 14 sections were rendered unridable by the relentless rain. The pits/camp were graced with ankle-deep mud in places but dispite the conditions, 31 riders competed on Saturday. Sunday there was a bit less rain and we had 41 riders including 4 juniors. Riders donned trash bags, duct tape, nitrile gloves, Carhartts, slickers, dusters, actual modern rain gear and any combination thereof to thwart off the monsoonal moisture. Most rider comments overheard were about how much fun they were having.
This meet drew riders from Colorado, Idaho, Montana and even Pennsylvania. Many thanks to the Midwest Trialsmasters for their timely reconfiguration of the trial for the weather conditions and all the work they did in vain.
Iiams cup recipients for 2010 are Shawn Rivers and Bruce Coates for the support classes, they tied with 40 cleans each. Kenny Mosteller edged out the competetion for the upper classes Iiams cup with 45 cleans.

June 9th P.M. - Midwest Trial update

More info from Marc in Midwest... "Just wanting to let you know everything is set up. There will be ten sections Saturday and twelve Sunday. We hope the weather will hold up. The Saturday sections will be dirt and Sunday on rock. We might have to change them weather pending. The road will be marked tomorrow. The camp sight will have a alternative way out if we get rain so it will be easy for the campers to get out."

June 9th - Midwest Trial....weather update

Springtime in Wyoming ;^) The Weather Report says 50% chance of precipitation and temperatures a good 20 degrees below normal. Please plan accordingly!

June 2nd - Midwest Trial....update

"All is well the set up for the midwest trials is going good I was just wanting to let you no the the trials masters for this year will be Zack Blackmore, Ralph Anaya and Guy Chapman. June 2nd - Montana Trials

If you're looking for something to do June 19th, Tom Jungst from up in Butte says: I hope some riders can make it up from Wyoming. I think Dan (Larson) needs some champ competition! He has set some amazing sections that encompass all levels of riding. Here are some shots from my land where we will have the event:

May 19th - Powder River Trial - Results

Results for rounds 2 and 3 at Powder River are now posted in the Championship Points table, click "Standings" in the nav bar above to view them.
The unique sandstone formations at Eccles Ranch provided dramatic backdrops and challenging obstacles for the weekend. Saturday was a bit cold and overcast but turnout was good with 33 riders. On Sunday there was a big improvement in the weather with sunshine and temperatures in the 60's. Again, we saw 33 riders competing.
One point of interest was the Pro class riders had sections so technical that they did not have time to ride their third loop either day. Finish was determined from two loop scores.

May 18th - Long Sleeve T's and Hoodies?

If you haven't already let us know, time's running out to get your long sleeve "Cup" t-shirts for the Medicine Bow Cup and Mosteller Cup.

At the Powder River meet, interest was high and several orders were placed for hoodie sweatshirts with WMTA graphics. Fred is looking into the cost for full-zip .vs. pull-over hoodie styles.
If the cost differential is not too much we might go with the zipper style. The cost for pull-overs would be around $25.00 and more for zip. If you'd like to reserve one or if you have any good ideas for the graphics let us know.

So, if you'd interested in long sleeve T's or the Hoodies, click "Contact Us" in the nav bar above for contact information.

WMTA News: October 5th - Last Round of the Season

The last round of the season at Hat Six Rocks is done. We had eight sections set by Trialsmasters Mike and Miles Morgan. Twenty-four riders competed, rode in groups and we were done around 1:30...just before the weather started getting ugly. It never got over 40 degrees and the East wind must've had the wind chill below freezing, but I never hreard any complaints and the riders had a lot of fun.

The results will be posted soon, click the "Standings" link above in a few days. Also, season standings will be figured-up and should be available for viewing in a couple of weeks.

WMTA News: October 3rd - Gate Trial at Coates Ranch

DANG - That was fun! Twenty-one riders and a twenty section - three loop course for a total of sixty sections in one day...for most of us. This time the riders were placed in major class groups for results. After the sixty sections, for those who hadn't had enough fun already, there was a five section - three loop shootout in which ten riders participated.

A big thanks (and future invitations) to Rodger Hushka who showed up with a never ending supply of breakfast burritos, pork chops and brauts for everyone throughout the day.

WMTA News: September 18th - Riley's Dad has MORE news...

Received via Evelyn Peacock today...

“Surgery went pretty well. the ligaments, tendons, and nerves were crushed but NOT severed. The thumb was 65 % severed though. One main artery was severed and the other was crushed. The doc says the thumb could most likely survive if that one artery will repair and re-inflate. The one severed artery was too small to repair and he felt he could do more damage to the surrounding veins (return blood supply) trying to repair the severed and smashed arteries.
His thumb did turn black and we have been keeping the tissue alive by diving Riley in a hyperbaric chamber twice a day. the black was completely gone by this Wednesday but he had to skip Thursday treatment to go see the surgeon in SLC and the black is already coming back. His surgeon says the real test will come when we take him off the hyperbaric and right now that is looking poor. His injury never really bled which is concerning but yesterday we saw some tiny blood drops on his bandages. A good sign I think....if the one artery can get flowing I think we can deal with the remaining challenges.
He has just started to have some real intense pain bouts, only a few but it is nearly as bad as when the injury took place. He says its the whole thumb which I am encouraged by....I think it means the nerves are starting to work again. He is really being so tough though. His big relief came when he came out of surgery and he still had his thumb........that was his first question when he first opened his eyes. It will take a lot more fight, faith, prayers and hope to keep it now.
I had ordered a pair of trials boots for him before we came over to Casper and they finally arrive a few days after he was home. I waited another couple of days and asked him if he wanted me to return them and he said no. I think he is thinking about coming back once he heals, I just hope he can keep that thumb.”

WMTA News: September 14th - Last Meet of Season UPDATED

From Casey Coates - "The fun trial will be a 20 section gate trial format. We will allow camping on the ranch, but we will ask that "NO" dogs be brought onto the ranch."
Current plans are to have a "fun" trial at Coates Ranch in West Casper on Saturday, October 3rd and the final round of the season at Hat Six Rocks on Sunday October 4th. Flier to be published here and mailed out in a couple of weeks or so.

WMTA News: September 9th - Riley's Dad has news...

"When I got back to the hospital they had decided that the damage to Riley's thumb was out of the scope of their abilities, primarily due to the vascular injuries. They felt better about sending him to Primary Childrens in SLC where they had a vascular surgeon. So he was life flighted from Casper to SLC. My wife met Riley at the hospital and Dr's there did surgery at 7:30pm. They worked on him for 2 hrs. The circulation in his thumb is improving slowly, they are also diving him in a hyperberic chamber twice daily and we are hopeful that it will all work. The ligaments, tendons and nerves were smashed but not severed and we are sure that the many payers and good thoughts offered in his behalf have been answered. He just needs the arteries to heal and real blood flow to return now. Please tell the good folks that were there to help Riley how thankful I am for their help." (edited to save space)

WMTA News: September 8th - Mosteller Cup

The 31st Annual Mosteller Cup and AHRMA 3-day Nationals have come and gone. We had 66 riders in the cup trial with the largest classes being Advanced with 11 riders, Amateur with 8 and Veteran Intermediate with 7. Mosteller Cup results will be added soon in the year standings.
There were 56 riders on the AHRMA lines, 31 of which rode all three rounds. AHRMA riders from CO, TN, NY, CA, MT, SD, NM, UT, ID , ND and even NY came all the way here to ride the unique Mosteller terrain. As usual everyone had their fair share of water, tight turns, mud, rocks and logs.
Thanks to ALL those who checked sections and those who helped at the sign-up table. Thanks to John Lever and Denise Underwood for supplying the grill that we used Staurday night and Brian Martinson for volunteering to cook.

WMTA News: August 7th - Mosteller Cup Update

Notes from Mosteller Cup Trials site...
Brush is heavy after an unusually wet Spring and Summer. We've got 10 sections picked out for Saturday, several of which are new! Each new section is requiring a couple of hours to get cleaned out. Currently clearing deadfall and over growth for Monday loop and sections. The waterfall section just West of the pits has been resurrected for 2009. The general plan is, Saturday's sections will be N of the pits along the creek, Sundays sections will be SSW to the fenceline along the creek and road, then Monday we'll be heading West up into the fish ponds canyon.
Updated online fliers for the AHRMA National and WMTA Mosteller Cup should be posted soon!

Here's a bit of news from Dallas Peak. He, Ron Anderson and Barry Matlack are the Medicine Bow Cup Trialsmasters this year.

"Had a dental appointment in Douglas yesterday so afterwards headed up to Spring Hill for a hike and started laying out a loop. Everything looks to be OK and hopefully we'll have a good event. It's been awhile since we rode there but I remembered the granite rock as less fatiguing to ride than Gray Rocks and it should be. I also went over to the Lodge and it is closed. Supposed to open on the 3rd of July. Weekends only, bar only with no food except some appetizers served."
